Biography

I was 14 when I started writing professionally (I got my first rejection letter from Vanity Fair. Awesome, no?) Since then, I’ve pretty much been a writing machine, lovingly churning out words for magazines and newspapers, books and screenplays, and everything in between.

As a freelance writer, I’ve contributed to outlets including Rolling Stone, Variety, Maxim, Glamour, Out, Whole Life Times, Angeleno, Yoga Journal, Body and Soul, Business Traveler, Fashion Magazine, Chicago Sun Times and many others, including having blogged regularly for AOL and Gawker Media.

My work has also led me to creating content and marketing materials for clients such as AT&T Interactive, Lawrence Moore & Associates, Wagstaff Worldwide, Yahoo!, Louis Karno & Associates, Booty Parlor, Behr Paints, Hollan Publishing, Molson Breweries, Hairroin Salon, The Feng Shui Guy and more.

As a published author, I’ve contributed to three anthologies (published by Random House, Cleis Press and Phoenix Books), edited one (published by Caroll & Graf), and had my memoir published in 2007 (Phoenix Books) in addition to crafting several ghost-written projects.

And now, it’s about turning my filmic and television obsession into a screenwriting career. So far, I’ve sold three scripts and seen two produced, and I continue to work on both tube and flick scripts in the genres of comedy, drama and sci-fi (though I think I have an animated feature or two buried in me somewhere, being a big Disney nerd). Several of my scripts are under consideration at major production companies, studios and networks.

I’ve also been a talking head, having spoken and presented at the University of Southern Missouri, Toronto Women’s Bookstore, Elliot Bay Books, In the Flesh Reading Series, Blue Stockings Bookstore and many others. And then somewhere in there, I was also nominated for several Internet-related awards, having won one for Best Online Publication at the Canadian New Media Awards. I’ve been a panelist — and later, volunteer coordinator — for numerous Internet-related conferences, and have volunteered my time with RAINN (the Rape and Incest National Network) and WriteGirl, a non-profit dedicated to helping at-risk teen girls develop their writing and communication skills.

I’m an encyclopedia of  random pop culture knowledge, a passionate adventurer, voracious reader, film obsessive and adventurous vegan cook, and when I’m not jet setting, I call Los Angeles home.

Media

Over the years I’ve been interviewed by The Insider, E! True Hollywood Story, Sex TV, Nightline, Sirius XM Radio, ABC News, The Globe and Mail, Marketing Magazine, Entertainment Weekly, Cosmopolitan and many more. Here’s a smattering of these media opportunities that I’ve had some fun with:
